Description
Martin Custom Shop Auditorium 14-Fret - Natural Gloss
When C.F. Martin’s Nazareth Custom Shop turns its focus to premier domestic tonewoods, instruments like this Custom Shop 000-14 Fret are born. Built on Martin’s beloved Auditorium foundation, this acoustic pairs a resonant solid Sitka spruce soundboard with solid American black walnut back and sides. While spruce delivers the immediate projection, chime-like clarity, and wide dynamic headroom players have loved for generations, walnut brings a sonic personality all its own. Sitting right in the sweet spot between mahogany and rosewood, walnut provides a woody, focused midrange punch complemented by crisp highs, strong fundamental resonance, and sweet overtones. From nuanced fingerstyle to lively flatpicking, each note blooms with remarkable articulation and separation.
If this Auditorium shape feels like music royalty in your hands, that is because it is. Ever since Eric Clapton famously immortalized the 000 silhouette during his landmark MTV Unplugged performance, and artists like John Mayer, Robbie Robertson, and Bob Dylan made Martin 000-size acoustics their go-to studio and stage partners, the 14-fret Auditorium has stood as the pinnacle of playing comfort and balanced frequency response. Designed with an inviting 24.9" short scale and Martin’s Modified Low Oval mahogany neck with a High Performance Taper, your fretting hand glides effortlessly across the dark, clear black ebony fingerboard.
Visually, this Custom Shop build is a masterclass in understated elegance. Outlined in European flamed maple binding that contrasts the rich grain patterns of the black walnut, it features an Old Style 18 rosette, Grover nickel open-gear tuners with vintage buttons, and an ebony modern belly bridge with a bone saddle. Finished in full gloss lacquer, this heirloom-grade Martin 000 proves domestic hardwoods can deliver both boutique beauty and classic tone.
