Lesson Policy & Student Agreement

Policies and Procedures

Enrollment

Enrolling in our lesson program can be successfully completed by contacting our sales staff on the phone, in person, or online at palenmusic.com/pages/lessons.

Payment

Billing occurs monthly, on the 1st of each month. If a student starts mid-month, the first tuition payment will be prorated accordingly. PMC only accepts credit/debit cards for tuition payments, and a credit/debit card must be on file, encrypted, for auto-billing.

Rescheduling

If you know in advance about a scheduling conflict, you must contact your instructor at least five days ahead of time to request a rescheduled lesson. You can also request a rescheduled lesson using Opus1.

Months with a 5th week of lessons offer a great opportunity to reschedule lessons. Lessons that fall on the 5th week of the month are not considered a part of the four regularly scheduled lessons per month.

Absences

There are no makeup lessons due to a student absence. Our instructors' schedules are packed full, and just like traditional school, if you miss a day, there is not automatically time in their schedules to make up class time. As a professional courtesy, your instructor still receives compensation whether or not you are present.

If a teacher is absent due to illness or an unexpected event, the lesson will be banked. These lessons may be made up at a later time in coordination with the teacher's schedule. Families are allowed 60 days to restore instructor-missed lessons. After 60 days the banked lesson expires. There are no refunds for expired banked lessons.

Virtual lessons are a good option for illness and weather-related absences. Lesson assignments and video instruction may also be sent by the instructor in these circumstances.

No refunds will be given for individual lessons missed either by the student or instructor, with the exception of Instructor Personal Days.

Instructor Personal Days

At times, instructors may have professional or personal obligations and may need to cancel lessons in advance. If this occurs, instructors will communicate the details about their absence at least one week in advance, and the student will not be charged for the lessons missed. These lessons will not be rescheduled or banked.

Holidays

Lessons that occur on holidays where Palen Music Center is closed may be rescheduled or banked in coordination with your instructor.

Performance Weeks

Twice a year, PMC will have a special opportunity to celebrate and share each student's accomplishments, no matter their age or ability. This is an important time to connect with other musicians, challenge each other, and inspire one another.

Annual Christmas Holiday

Lessons at Palen Music Center will be closed the week of Christmas. Exact dates will be determined each year and families will be notified a month in advance. These lessons are not rescheduled or banked, and this time is included as part of the total tuition rate. There will be a total of 3 lessons in December. December's shortened instruction schedule allows our teachers a break to be with their families, as well as giving them time to prepare for a new year of lessons.

Cancellation of Enrollment

14 days notice is required for all enrollment cancellations. Lessons will be charged in lieu of notice.
