First released in 1942, the J-45 quickly earned the title of "The Workhorse," becoming an essential companion for legendary artists on stages and in studios worldwide. This new J-45 Century 12-Fret offers a fresh, resonant twist on that classic legacy. By shifting the neck-to-body joint from the standard 14th fret to the 12th, Gibson has repositioned the bridge deeper into the widest part of the top. This allows the Sitka spruce soundboard to move more efficiently, resulting in a warm, punchy, and incredibly balanced voice that responds beautifully to lighter picking and delicate fingerstyle techniques.
Crafted as part of the Century Collection to celebrate a hundred years of flat-top mastery, this guitar pairs the iconic punch of a mahogany body with the crisp clarity of a Sitka spruce top. Mahogany is renowned for its strong midrange and focused fundamental notes, while the spruce provides the "ringing" complexity needed for high-volume projection. Finished in a hand-sprayed satin nitrocellulose lacquer, the wood is free to breathe and age naturally, ensuring the tone only gets richer over time.
