1981 Inventions LVL

The 1981 Inventions LVL is the highly anticipated second release from Matthew Hoopes, offering a completely new sonic flavor compared to its predecessor, the DRV. Born from a four-year development process and a close collaboration with John Snyder of Electronic Audio Experiments, the LVL is a professional low-gain device designed to be the pedal you never want to turn off. Rather than relying on standard K-style or Tube Screamer circuits, the LVL utilizes a unique combination of light clipping and op-amp push to achieve a distinct, clear, and articulate overdrive structure.

Sonically, this pedal captures the specific, driving energy found on Relient K’s Forget And Not Slow Down era. It is engineered as a "full-range" drive, meaning it preserves your signal’s low-end frequencies, making it an exceptional choice for bass guitar as well as electric guitar. Whether you are looking for a subtle harmonic enhancement or a gritty, amp-like breakup, the LVL provides a perfect low-gain stage that sits perfectly in a mix without muddying your natural tone.

Construction-wise, the LVL is built to be the ultimate team player on your pedalboard. It excels at stacking, breathing new life into fuzz pedals when placed after them, or pushing other overdrives into rich saturation when placed before them. It responds dynamically to volume boost in front of it and cleans up beautifully with your volume knob. If the DRV is the distortion of the mid-2000s, the LVL is the transparent, textured overdrive of the modern era, delivering a sound that is both fresh and instantly classic.
