The Custom 24 is more than just a model number; it is the very foundation upon which the PRS legacy was built. This is the axe that Paul Reed Smith first introduced to the world at the 1985 Winter NAMM show, instantly redefining what a high-performance electric guitar could be. Bridging the gap between vintage tradition and modern innovation, the Custom 24 has been the weapon of choice for countless touring pros, including legends like Carlos Santana and modern shredders like Orianthi, who demand absolute reliability and sonic versatility.
At its core, this instrument pairs a resonant mahogany back with a stunning maple top, a combination that delivers a rich, warm midrange with plenty of top-end snap. The playability is legendary, featuring a Pattern Thin mahogany neck and a rosewood fingerboard adorned with the iconic bird inlays. The 2024 updates include new "Wing" tuner buttons, which aren't just an aesthetic nod to the 12th fret birds—their lighter weight subtracts less energy from the vibrating strings, allowing the guitar to ring out longer and more musically.
