Gibson Custom 1942 Banner J-45 Heavy Aged - Vintage Sunburst
The allure and legend of the "Workhorse" live on in this spectacular Custom Shop recreation. Inspired by the "Holy Grail" of vintage acoustic instruments, this 1942 Banner J-45 Heavy Aged is meticulously crafted by the master luthiers in Bozeman, Montana, to replicate the most celebrated version of this model in both structure and spirit. It features a Thermally Aged Adirondack Red Spruce top, a wood legendary for being "stiff and hard, with a clear, ringing yet complex and nuanced tone that carries right through high volume levels". The thermal aging process allows the wood to behave like a vintage instrument right out of the case, delivering that dry, woody explosion of sound associated with pre-war guitars.
The back and sides are solid Mahogany, pairing perfectly with the Red Spruce to create a warm, balanced, and projection-heavy voice that has defined American music for decades. While modern Adirondack Spruce often "differs cosmetically from that of pre-War days" with charming character marks, its "extra stiffness gives it additional velocity of sound," resulting in responsiveness that projects quickly from the top. The Murphy Lab Heavy Aged finish treatment completes the illusion, simulating decades of heavy play wear with deep lacquer checking and a tactile, broken-in feel.
