These tubes are known for their chimey top-end and dynamic response, which really shines as you push the amp harder. The preamp section features a pair of 12AX7s, which deliver that classic American feel with a touch of throaty midrange grit.

The construction of the Varsity Reverb is a testament to Magnatone's commitment to quality. The cabinet is made of solid pine with finger-jointed construction, ensuring a sturdy build and resonant tone. The authentic camel-colored vinyl covering with a dark brown grill and the 14k gold chevron logo gives it a stylish vintage look. Beyond the cosmetics, the amp is meticulously hand-wired with point-to-point construction, using high-quality components like custom-wound transformers from Magnetic Components. This amp is deceptively versatile thanks to its straightforward controls and a footswitchable negative feedback loop. With the negative feedback engaged, the sound is tighter and more compressed with a rounded top end, similar to a traditional American-style amp. Flipping the switch disengages the negative feedback, boosting the gain and giving the amp a more open, chimey, and British-style feel. This dual personality makes the Varsity Reverb a great platform for pedals and allows you to dial in a wide variety of sounds from pristine clean to a rich, saturated overdrive.
