The McCarty model, named after the pioneering electric guitar and musical instrument industry figure Ted McCarty, is a vintage-inspired guitar that incorporates the latest findings from PRS while paying tribute to the golden age of the guitar. This guitar boasts a bound, 22-fret Pattern neck, a slightly thicker back for improved tone and sustain, and 58/15 LT treble and bass pickups that have undergone the TCI process, which enhances their vintage-style clarity and focused midrange. With a push/pull tone control and a 3-way toggle pickup switch, the pickups offer a wide range of tones. The PRS stoptail bridge with brass studs and vintage-style tuners provide added resonance and stability.
According to Paul Reed Smith, "everything that touches the string is God," and the bridge, nut, and tuners are essential components that were given particular attention in the design of the McCarty model. The updates made to these elements have had a significant impact on the guitar's sustain and character, without compromising its integrity. The first McCarty guitar was released in 1994, incorporating both the techniques and knowledge gained from Ted McCarty, who served as a mentor and friend to Paul and the team at PRS.
