Monday, May 4, 2009
The PMC Quick Note is a service provided to all area directors. It is part of our mission to support the lives of band directors across the Midwest. The Quick Note contains helpful tips and suggestions from area directors, spotlights on area college and university band programs, calendars of upcoming events, advocacy articles promoting music education, links to helpful web resources, and much more. Comments, suggestions, ideas, and articles are always welcome.

During moments of musical euphoria, blood travels through the brain to areas where
other stimuli can produce feelings of contentment and joy—and travels away from brain
cell areas associated with depression and fear.
-- Dr. Frederick Tims, reported in AMC Music News, June 2, 1999
Money, Money, Money!!!!
Your school district may be receiving a large chunk of money from the recent stimulus plan. You can view the reports for each state and see how much money each individual district is receiving. This is all part of the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act (ARRA) and schools are advised to focus on short-term investments with potential long-term benefits. Replacing older instruments for your marching or concert band can readily meet this objective. I would encourage you to come up with a wish list of instruments and quickly approach your administration and school board to find out what possibilities there are for accessing that money. We would be happy to assist in putting together bid proposals quickly and would be grateful to assist you with your musical instrument needs.
