The Quick Note contains helpful tips and suggestions from area directors, spotlights on area college and university band programs, calendars of upcoming events, advocacy articles promoting music education, links to helpful web resources, and much more. Comments, suggestions, ideas, and articles are always welcome.

Coach Wooden on Leadership
The website www.coachwooden.com contains some of the most helpful, inspirational, and tested leadership material available. The pyramid below was developed by Coach Wooden over decades and reflects the building-block process for developing success. The idea is to start at the bottom of the pyramid from the corners, and work your way in. Only after all five foundation building blocks are in place should the next level be developed. A printable version of the pyramid is available by clicking on the image below.

All core values translate into the classroom, the band room, business, or the basketball court. Developing teamwork by prioritizing focus on the building blocks is certainly a recipe for success. Below are the 12 Lessons in Leadership from the bottom of the pyramid:
1. Good Values Attract Good People
2. Love Is The Most Powerful Four-Letter Word
3. Call Yourself A Teacher
4. Emotion Is Your Enemy
5. It Takes 10 Hands To Make A Basket
6. Little Things Make Big Things Happen
7. Make Each Day Your Masterpiece
8. The Carrot Is Mightier Than A Stick
9. Make Greatness Attainable By All
10. Seek Significant Change
11. Don't Look At The Scoreboard
12. Adversity Is Your Asset
