The PMC Quick Note is a service provided to all area directors. It is part of our mission to support the lives of band directors across the Midwest. The Quick Note contains helpful tips and suggestions from area directors, spotlights on area college and university band programs, calendars of upcoming events, advocacy articles promoting music education, links to helpful web resources, and much more. Comments, suggestions, ideas, and articles are always welcome.

The College Entrance Examination Board found that students involved in public school music programs scored 107 points higher on the SAT's than students with no participation.

Great Article on Overcoming Fear
Yamaha put out a great article on Overcoming Fear that I would like to recommend. It was written by Frank Gabriel Campos. You can click the image to view the article in its entirety.
Here is a quick summary of the article:
- Performance anxiety is due to the "fight or flight" syndrome
- Anxiety is diminished when you reduce muscular tension
- You must practice ways to relax in order to reduce tension and therefore reduce performance anxiety
- Identifying and eliminating the anxiety trigger will help you modify the unwanted behavior
- The article details some examples of relaxation techniques that can be practiced

Bret Kuhn Percussion Clinic on March 21
Bret Kuhn, former arranger of the World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps will be doing a clinic in conjunction with the MCCGA Color Guard and Percussion Show held at Kickapoo High School on March 21. The clinic will begin following the percussion performances at approximately 2 PM. Admission is $7.00 for the show and clinic. We hope you can make time to attend this educational percussion event.
